Why it matters

The museum, owned and run by the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation, tells the story of the Pequot people and other Native peoples of the Northeast, from ancient times to today.

Why it may matter to you

It shows Native history in New England — a region often told only through colonial stories — from a tribal nation's own perspective.

The fuller story

The Pequot War of 1636–1638 devastated the Pequot people. The museum also covers how the nation survived, rebuilt, and regained federal recognition in 1983.
