Your privacy
What is stored, and where
Your questionnaire answers, checklist statuses, completed lessons, review checklists, experience notes, and application tracker entries are saved in your browser's local storage on this device.
This information is not sent to us, to any government agency, or to any analytics or advertising service. Anyone else who uses this browser on this device may be able to see it.
The candidate worksheet on the Checking Facts & Candidates page works differently: your ratings, notes, and source links stay only in the open browser tab unless you turn on "Save on this device." Turning saving off, or pressing "Delete my worksheet notes," removes the saved copy. Worksheet content is never sent anywhere, and the site never scores candidates or guesses your political views.
On the Shared Spaces page, the review checklist saves only which reminder topics you checked — no notes or details about you or anyone else. "Clear my checklist" removes it. The page never collects reports, photos, or information about other people.
When you close a holiday or Election Day message, this browser remembers only which message you closed (for example, "Thanksgiving 2026") so it doesn't pop up again. Today's date comes from your own device's clock and is never sent to us.
You can delete everything this site saved at any time. Clearing your browser's site data also removes it.
What we never ask for
- Exact birth date
- Social Security number
- Immigration document or citizenship certificate numbers
- Passwords or login codes for any government account
- Uploads of passports, citizenship certificates, Social Security cards, or clearance documents
- Your religion, ethnicity, immigration history, political party, or how you plan to vote
The visitor count
The footer shows one site-wide number: how many visits Citizen Navigator has had. Each browser session adds one to that number. We store only the running total — no names, IP addresses, locations, or tracking cookies. To avoid counting the same visit twice, your browser keeps a small "already counted" note that disappears when you close the tab.
Ballot and polling-place links
The voter tools on the Government & Voting page link to official and trusted sites. Each of those sites asks for your address on its own page, so Citizen Navigator never sees it.
Who Represents Me: address lookup
Entering an address on the Who Represents Me page is optional — you can browse by state instead. If you do enter one, it is sent once from our server to the U.S. Census Bureau's Geocoder to find your districts. Citizen Navigator doesn't save it, log it, or put it in analytics, and it isn't stored in your browser. "Clear address and results" removes it from the page, and leaving or refreshing the page removes it too.
The lookup never guesses your citizenship, immigration status, political party, or whether you can vote. The Census Bureau handles the request under its own privacy policy.
The question helper
When you use Ask a question, your question and the conversation so far are sent to Lovable AI to write an answer. Citizen Navigator does not save your questions or answers, and the conversation disappears when you leave or refresh the page.
Please don't type personal details such as your Social Security number, A-number, birth date, case or document numbers, or passwords.
Explore America: location, maps, and saved places
Explore America asks for your location only if you press Explore near me, and your browser asks your permission first. Your location (or a city you type) is used only in the open tab to sort places by straight-line distance. It is never saved or sent to us.
Saved places and itinerary changes (stop order, skipped stops, and your trip notes) are kept only in this browser. You can delete them with "Delete my saved places," "Reset my changes," or the button above that clears everything.
The map is provided by Google Maps. When you open the map view, your browser loads it from Google, which receives your device's usual connection information under Google's own privacy policy. Landmark photos load from Wikimedia Commons. "Directions" links open your chosen maps service in a new tab.
Other data
This site has no user accounts, contact form, or advertising trackers. Like most websites, the hosting provider may process standard technical information (such as IP address and browser type) to deliver pages and keep the service secure.
Web fonts are loaded from Google Fonts, which receives standard request information when your browser downloads them.
Links to official government sites open those sites, which have their own privacy policies.
