What this means
USAJOBS uses Login.gov to sign you in. You create a Login.gov account with your email and a strong password, then add a second security step such as an authentication app or text message.
Why it matters
Your account holds your resume and applications. Securing it protects your personal information.
What to prepare
- An email address you check regularly.
- A phone or authentication app for two-step verification.
- A private place to store your password (such as a password manager).
Steps to take
Step 1 of 4: Type login.gov directly into your browser's address bar. Check that the address ends in .gov.
Step 2 of 4: Create your account and set up a second security method.
Step 3 of 4: Go to usajobs.gov and choose Sign in. You'll be sent to Login.gov to sign in.
Step 4 of 4: Complete your USAJOBS profile.
Common mistakes
- Creating accounts through links in unexpected emails or text messages.
- Sharing your password or one-time code with anyone — including someone who says they are a recruiter.
- Paying anyone to create a USAJOBS account. Accounts are free.
